ONLINE GAMBLER HAS A GO AT POKER |
|
On Thursday I received a phone
call from the office telling me the Poker room was now open. My Texas Holdem
Poker experience is virtually nothing, a few hands at the casino and that it
is it. Anyway I decided to have a go and downloaded the software – surprisingly it took less than a few minutes. I registered my details (everyone can see this in the Poker room), deposited a few quid and sat down (or whatever the expression is for online Poker) and began playing. Initially I thought it would be quite dull having to wait for others to decide what to do. This was not the case though and the pace of action was quick enough to keep me entertained, yet just slow enough to allow me to understand what was happening. It didn’t take long to realise that my skills at Texas Holdem Poker were not on the same level of my Sports betting – not that they are much at the moment. The few quid I did deposit soon disappeared, as my aggressive approach didn’t seem to work. In fairness it probably doesn’t help when I started betting with a pathetic set of cards. Having watch a bit of Poker on television and in films, I thought going for it was the way forward. I finished Thursday a few quid down, although this hadn’t put me off. Infact my appetite for more had been well and truly wetted. Good Friday I know is meant to a time for relaxation and stuffing yourself with chocolate. Well there is always Sunday and Monday for all that so after a spot of breakfast I logged on straight away to the Texas Holdem Poker site. Today I was intent on raising the stakes and being a little more sensible with my play. I decided to adopt a more cautious approach, and only really go for it when I had a decent hand. For about an hour all was going very well with a number of big wins. However, annoyingly on one hand I suffered a major setback despite holding two pairs, which I deemed to be a very strong hand in the given circumstances. On Saturday I played a good few hours online. What I was realizing now was intense concentration was required to have any chance of making money. There were a number of times when I had resigned myself to losing, but ended up winning – due to misreading the cards. Then on other occasions, I was sure I had won but again due to a misread ended up losing. So what had I learned from a few days playing Poker? This Texas Holdem game requires skill, knowledge of when to go for it and when not, plus an element of luck – all of which I am severely lacking at present. |
